Pixera Hub not found in local network

This troubleshooting guide applies when PIXERA Hub systems are running in the same network but do not discover or show each other. The issue can occur after deploying multiple Hub systems from the same Windows image, or when network discovery traffic is blocked.

Error Message

There may be no specific error message. Typically, the affected PIXERA Hub systems simply do not appear in the network discovery list or cannot find each other.

Symptoms

One or more PIXERA Hub systems are online and reachable in the network, but they do not discover each other automatically.

Possible symptoms include:

  • Hub systems are missing from the discovery list.
  • Multiple Hub systems were created from the same system image.
  • The Hub web interface may still be reachable directly, but automatic discovery does not work.

Cause

If multiple PIXERA Hub systems were created from the same image, they can contain identical internal Hub IDs. When the IDs are exactly the same, the systems may not be able to distinguish each other correctly during discovery.

Another possible cause is that network discovery traffic is blocked by a firewall, switch configuration, VLAN setup, or other network security rules.

Solution 1

Reset the internal PIXERA Hub ID on the affected systems.

  1. Close PIXERA Hub.
  2. Delete the following file:
    C:\ProgramData\AV Stumpfl\Hub\instance.dat
  3. Restart PIXERA Hub.

After the restart, PIXERA Hub generates a new internal ID. Repeat this on each affected system that was created from the same image.

Solution 2

Check whether local permissions are preventing PIXERA Hub from accessing the network correctly.

  1. Close PIXERA Hub.
  2. Start PIXERA Hub as administrator.
  3. Check whether the other Hub systems are discovered correctly.

If discovery works when PIXERA Hub is started as administrator, check the local Windows permissions, firewall rules, and security settings for the regular user account.

Solution 3

Check whether PIXERA Hub discovery is blocked in the network.

PIXERA Hub uses the following network communication:

  • Multicast discovery address: 224.0.0.242
  • Multicast discovery port: 30242 UDP
  • Web interface port: 4000 HTTP

Make sure that multicast traffic to 224.0.0.242 on UDP port 30242 is allowed between the Hub systems. Also verify that the Hub web interface can be reached on HTTP port 4000.

Solution 4

If the systems still cannot discover each other, start PIXERA Hub in debug mode to view possible errors in the command line.

  1. Close PIXERA Hub.
  2. Run the following file:
    C:\Program Files\AV Stumpfl\Pixera Hub\pixera-hub-debug-mode.bat
  3. Check the command line output for errors or warnings.

If the command line shows an unclear or unexpected error, please contact support and include the debug output.
