In PIXERA, it is possible to import and export an entire Timeline, including its Cues, Effects, Keyframes, and more.

This feature is helpful if you want to use a built out Timeline in a different project, instead of needing to recreate it from scratch.

Export

Everything involving the Timeline is included in the .axp export. This includes:

• Handle
• Name
• All Inspector Settings
• Cues
• Layers
• Clips
• Resources inside Clips
• Keyframes
• Effects
• etc.

Once a Timeline is ready, the Export button can be found in the Timeline’s Inspector under the Multi-User section.

Import

The Import button can be found in the Timeline’s Inspector under the Multi-User section.

To import a Timeline correctly, it is important to keep in mind the below:

Timeline Handle

The Timeline's Handle on export is saved in the .axp file. This makes it a direct copy of the Timeline, not a Template of the Timeline.

If you go to import the .axp file while already having the original Timeline, or if you already imported it once, it will only replace the current same-handled Timeline, not create a new one.

Also, if there is a Timeline of the same name as the .axp Timeline, but it does not have the same Handle, the imported Timeline will also add a count to the end of its name.

When moving a Timeline between projects, as the workflow is expecting, the above does not apply.

However if aiming to use the .axp file as a way to create multiple of the same Timeline on one project, this will not work, instead you will want to use the Duplicate option on a Timeline by right-clicking on it.

Resources

The connections between Clips and Resources should match, so both projects should have the same Resource structure.

If this structure differs (if the drive has changed), the Clips will still be displayed, but they will have no Resource assigned to them.

To reassign the Resources to the Clips, you can use the Maintenance section in the Timeline's Inspector. There, you’ll find the Re-Link with File Name button which will reconnect the Resources with the Clips.

A basic requirement for this process is that the files used in the original project have already been imported into the new PIXERA project. In this case, the structure no longer matters.
